What Do You Do When Trials Come?
We all face challenges—moments when life feels too heavy, when our faith is tested. But the real question is: How do we respond? Everyone faces storms. But when the pressure rises, do we panic, give up—or do we pray?
“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.” — James 5:17-18
James teaches us that prayer isn’t just for prophets or super-saints. It’s for people like you and me. Just like Elijah. We pray. Not out of ritual, but with boldness, faith, and consistency.
Why Trials?
Trials serve a purpose. They stretch us, test us, and strengthen our faith. They lead us toward maturity.
Instead of reacting with anger or carelessness, we are called to:
- Watch our words
- Do good
- Be doers of the Word—not hearers only
How Should We Respond?
We Pray. We gather. We stand together in faith.
“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing. Is anyone sick? Let him call for the elders… and pray… The prayer of faith will save the sick… The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” — James 5:13–16
When life gets hard… we don’t panic—we PRAY.
When one of us suffers… we don’t isolate—we PRAY TOGETHER.
The Power of Prayer
What makes prayer effective?
- Effective – It must align with God’s Word
- Consistent – Keep on praying
- Faith-Based – Don’t doubt (Mark 11:22–24)
- Done in Unity – There is strength in community prayer. Prayer multiplies in unity
Elijah Was Human—Just Like You
Elijah was no superhuman:
- He was hungry—God sent ravens
- He was tired—an angel ministered to him
- He was afraid—he hid in a cave
- He was discouraged—he cried out
Despite his limitations, Elijah prayed bold prayers, and God answered in supernatural ways:
- He stopped rain for 3.5 years
- He called fire down from heaven
- He multiplied food
- He brought rain again through prayer
Short, Simple Prayers That Moved God
You don’t need to be eloquent. Just honest and bold. Here are some examples of simple prayers that moved the hand of God:
- “Remember me, Lord.” – Hezekiah
- “Open his eyes, Lord.” – Elisha
- “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” – Blind men
- “Look on the affliction of Your servant…” – Hannah
- “Grant us boldness…” – The Apostles
- “If I am a man of God, let fire fall.” – Elijah
Final Word
Elijah was like us. But he prayed. And heaven responded.
What’s stopping you? Start where you are. Speak from the heart. Believe with all you have. Because when ordinary people pray bold prayers—extraordinary things happen.
